Rescue and rare breeds

A lot of the animals here did not start out here. Some were abandoned, some were bought as pets by people who could not keep them, one was pulled out of a snare. And some are breeds that would disappear if farms like this stopped keeping them.

Luna

In March 2021 a black fox was found in Wales with her leg caught in an illegal snare, most likely set to catch her for her unusual coat. She lost the leg. She came to us, our keepers spent months on her recovery, and when she was ready she went into the big fox enclosure to meet Wilf and Kit. It made BBC News at the time, and it is still the story visitors ask about most.

Not every rescue is dramatic. Most are patience: an animal that will not come out of its box for a fortnight and then, one day, is first to the fence at the 4 o'clock feed.

The lockdown years

During 2020 and 2021 we took in animals from across the country when a lot of people found they could not keep them. We built new enclosures as we went. The wallabies came from Jimmy's Farm in Suffolk; the raccoons and raccoon dogs mostly came from homes that had bought them as pets.

Rare breeds

Among the sheep you will find Castlemilk Moorit and Manx Loaghtan, and among the birds, Grey Slate turkeys. Rare breeds only survive if someone keeps them, and a farm park where children can meet them is as good a reason as any.

After the fire

The fire in November 2025 took a building, the feed store and animals we loved. Rebuilding has been a year of work and we are not finished. If you want to help, the most useful things are simple: visit, buy a membership, tell people about us. Donation link or adopt-an-animal scheme, if the family wants one, goes here

Rehoming requests: we are a small farm and we cannot take every animal we are offered, but email info@animal-farm.co.uk with details and a photo and we will answer honestly.

Membership keeps the feed store full

A year of visits for you, and a year of hay, feed and vet bills for them. How it works.
